Many people have asked me: "What constitutes a needy dog?" There are many different ways to answer that question, but our definition is a dog in a shelter or low-income household.
Shelter Dogs: Many people don't realize the importance of toys for shelter dogs. Toys aid the socialization process, and studies have shown that socialized dogs are FAR more likely to be adopted. Adoption aside, although that is the most important end goal, we just want to help the pups have a little fun during their time at the shelter. I think they deserve it, don't you?
Low-Income Households: Many families live on tight household budgets, and dog toys are a luxury they cannot afford. One particular local organization, Emancipet, offers extremely low-cost health care options to these families. Emancipet also offers a low-cost spay/neuter program in an effort to help keep euthanasia rates low. I like to support them as much as possible, and love to send them toys- which they in turn can send home with their "patients," who may not have a ball at home to chase or a plushie to cuddle.
