About Teeny's Friends

We provide toys for needy dogs! At Teeny's Friends our goal is to make sure that no dog ever has to go without the simple pleasure of chasing a ball or snuggling a plushie. Our mission was inspired by Teeny, my own rescue dog & our mascot. We raise toys through monthly toy drives & the sale of our One For One toy (when you buy one, we donate one). The toys we raise are then donated to rescue groups, animal shelters, and families in low income neighborhoods. Read on to learn how you can help us help needy dogs!

Purchase Your Own Official Teeny's Friends One-For-One Toy!

Each is only $4.99 and when you buy one, we donate one to a needy dog! Buy your own via PayPal in the right-hand column below. Buy for yourself, as a gift, or as a donation for your favorite animal organization!

More Toy Pictures from Peru

The sweet boy above chewing on one of our toys is named Esteban. He is one of the many animals in Peru that are enjoying toys [some for the first time!] thanks to my friend Molly and Amazon Cares. I hope she keeps sending over the pictures, because I sure am enjoying them ~ how about you guys?

Gordon's "Wall of the Wierd"

When I stopped by the Town Lake Animal Shelter last Friday to drop off their toy donations, Gordon at the front desk took a liking to our 1-fur-1 toy. He gave it a place of honor [or a place of shame, depending on your point of view!] on his "wall of the wierd," which is a ledge that he keeps interesting toys that he comes across. Our funky chicken toy is in good company with an elephant, a monkey, Spongebob Squarepants, and a few toys that I have no clue as to what they are. If you stop by the Town Lake Animal Shelter, say "Hi!" to Gordon and check out his wall of the wierd!

Temporary New 1-Fur-1 Toy

I just learned that our usual 1-fur-1 toy is temporarily back ordered. The website doesn't say until when, so for the time being we will be replacing the funky chickens with the cute critters to the left. There is a yellow duck, a blue bear, a green elephant, and a pink pig. They still squeak! If you have a preference as to what toy we send you, please let me know in the "notes" section of Pay Pal checkout what your first and second choices are. The price is still the same. I apologize for the inconvenience; we all love the chickens! I'll let you all know as soon as they are restocked!

Bringing Toys to a Toyless Community with Amazon Cares

My amazing friend Molly recently bought $200 worth of our 1-fur-1 toys for her organization, Amazon Cares. [I've mentioned them before, click here to read]. This extremely generous purchase has enabled us to go to BlogPaws West, just like we been trying to do. And our roommate at BlogPaws will be none other than Molly herself!

Amazon Cares is doing AMAZING things in the poorest regions of the Peruvian Amazon region. Among other things, they have a mobile vet clinic in Iquitos where they aid and promote animal wellness. Here is their mission statement: "Amazon Community Animal Rescue, Education & Safety (CARES) seeks better health and living conditions for ALL living beings of the Peruvian Amazon region. This includes appropriate care, respect, and protection from cruelty and neglect." To learn more about them, click here to visit their website and click here to visit their blog.

Molly posted a blog today, "Dog Toys - What a Novel Concept," about how many of the animals in Peru are not accustomed to dog toys or the concept of fetch. Click here to read it - it's amazing and I highly recommend it. She brought all 50 of her purchased toys - plus the 50 donated toys, which we also donated them. She is spreading them around to all the animals in Iquitos. In poor regions, dog toys are a luxury, not a necessity. I am loving that today in Peru, a dog that has never played with a toy before is now learning to squeak and maybe, hopefully, one day play fetch. I am so grateful for people like Molly and am so grateful to be able to help improve animal conditions in that region, even if it's just in a small way.

Toy Donations for Town Lake Animal Shelter

Here is Marteeny inspecting the loot raised during our June toy drive at The Plush Pad here in Austin, Texas. He decided that all the donated toys passed his rigorous inspection, so I am taking them to the Town Lake Animal Shelter today at lunch! We really hope they make some animals there very happy!

I Am Only One

I read this quote on my friend Bunny Jean Cook's bunny blog, and I thought it was worthy of a re-post on here. Words to live by:

"I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything; but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do."

In this photo of Teeny and I you will notice I am wearing a "The Pet Wiki" t-shirt. The Pet Wiki is a great site, full of articles that you can create and edit, just like Wikpedia. It's a great place to get health information, hints & tips, and learn about breeds as well as various pet-related businesses. Next time you have a question about your pet, check them out!

Help Us Get To BlogPaws West Toy Sale!

As most of you know, we are just a teeny (pun intended) organization. Teeny's Friends consists of me, Teeny, a wicker laundry bin, and a closet. I have my heart set on going to BlogPaws West in Denver in September. BlogPaws is a conference for the online pet community. I want to meet my animal & human friends from Twitter [and online in general], listen to the speakers, learn from the experts, and, of course, help promote Teeny's Friends. The more people that know about us, the more needy dogs we will be able to help. And after all, that is what this is all about! I wish we had a budget for advertising and travel like some larger organzations have, but we don't. So I decided to create a budget for us! We are officially having a "Help Get Us to BlogPaws West Toy Sale!" Our 1-for-1 toy is normally $4.99. Until September, it will be $3.99 [that price includes shipping]. Of course, we will still donate one to a needy dog. So if you are able, please click here to purchase one of our toys. You will be helping a needy dog as well as helping send us to BlogPaws!

A Chance For Bliss Toy Photos

The angels who run A Chance For Bliss [who we donated toys to last month] were kind enough to send us some photos of their animals playing with the goodies we sent them. I must confess, the pictures caused me to tear up. I am so glad that they sent me these- it really makes me happy to see their poochies so happy! I'm also really glad that we chose them for our Be The Change pledge and I really hope to work with them again soon! Enjoy the pics!

Happy 1st Birthday to Teeny's Friends!

I just realized that June marks the one year anniversary of our very first toy drive. Twelve full months of helping provide needy dogs with toys. It hasn't always been easy ~ there have been plenty of tears, some frustrating times, and a sprinkle of self-doubt  here & there, but the good we are doing and the happy moments FAR outweigh the bad. I am so proud of what we accomplished, and excited about how much we have grown in such a short time. I am eternally grateful for each and every single one of you, as none of this would be possible without your support. We may put the bins and ship off the goodie boxes to the shelters, etc., but YOU GUYS are the ones donating toys and your hard earned money for our 1-fur-1 toys, making another toy donation possible! I am so excited about the next year and what it will bring. Again, thank you everyone for all your wonderful support, words of encouragement, and, most importantly, your friendship. As "mai pal" @frugaldougal says, together we can accomplish anything, one paw at a time!

June Toy Drive Is A GO!!!

At lunch today I stopped by The Plush Pad to set up our June toy drive benefitting the Town Lake Animal Shelter. To the left is a picture of our sign explaining what the bins are for. You will notice I added some things ~ nothing too crazy though! Just some spots to the dog and updated it with our NEW WEBSITE INFO! [Yay!] If you are in the Austin, Tx area please stop by and donate. Say hi to my new pals Doug & Louis [brothers!] while you are there! And as always, if you would like to contribute but are not in the Austin area [or are unable to make it to The Plush Pad] please contact me and I will be more than happy to work with you!

June Toy Drive at Plush Pad

Our June toy drive has been scheduled! It will be held at The Plush Pad, a fantastic grooming salon and pet supply store in Central Austin. I have worked with them before [but in another charitable capacity] and they are always willing to do and give what they can to help others. I really admire that, and am excited about the opportunity to have our June toy drive there.

Our bins will be at Plush Pad [2935 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, Tx 78757] from noon on Friday, June 4th until noon on Friday, June 18th. All the toys raised will benefit the Town Lake Animal Shelter [previously mentioned here] so PLEASE, if you are in the Austin area, stop by and donate a new or used toy because their animals are truly deserving.
