About Teeny's Friends

We provide toys for needy dogs! At Teeny's Friends our goal is to make sure that no dog ever has to go without the simple pleasure of chasing a ball or snuggling a plushie. Our mission was inspired by Teeny, my own rescue dog & our mascot. We raise toys through monthly toy drives & the sale of our One For One toy (when you buy one, we donate one). The toys we raise are then donated to rescue groups, animal shelters, and families in low income neighborhoods. Read on to learn how you can help us help needy dogs!

Purchase Your Own Official Teeny's Friends One-For-One Toy!

Each is only $4.99 and when you buy one, we donate one to a needy dog! Buy your own via PayPal in the right-hand column below. Buy for yourself, as a gift, or as a donation for your favorite animal organization!

February Toy Drive News!

(Image credit to AFP/ Getty Images )

We are so excited to tell you all about our February toy drive! It will be our first national toy drive, which means it will give everyone a chance to contribute, not only Austinites who are able to stop by the toy drive locations! It is also kind of scary, because we are counting on all of you to mail in new or gently used toys. This drive will benefit the animals of Haiti; specifically the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH). This coalition was formed by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). According to their website, their teams will be working in Haiti out of a mobile clinic donated by the Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society. WSPA and IFAW have pledged funds to fully outfit this mobile clinic. We have been looking for a way to help the displaced animals of Haiti, so we were excited to find out about this organization. For more information, please visit their website here. Our partner in this event are our friends at www.dogtipper.com, who are helping to promote this event. They have a great website full of tips for dog lovers, by dog lovers. Click here to see a posting they did about the toy drive. A million thanks to DogTipper for all their help!

To participate in the toy drive, please mail a new or gently used toy to:
Teeny's Friends, 11203 RR 2222 #1502, Austin, Tx 78730
At the end of the month, we will put together a care package and mail it in to the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti. We really hope everyone will contribute- these animals deserve a little fun now more than ever! If you don't want to mail a toy but want to help, another option is to buy a Teeny's Friends 1-fur-1 tug toy. When you buy one, we donate one. All donated toys generated from the purchase of our toy will also be donated to ARCH. You could help the animals of Haiti and get a new toy for your pooch at the same time! Links to purchase a 1-fur-1 tug toy are on the left-hand side of our home page.
And as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email us at katysknox@yahoo.com!

January Toy Drive Pics & Beneficiary Info

Our January toy drive ended officially on Friday (the 22nd). When it began, River Ranch Animal Hospital wasn't sure who the beneficiary was going to be. They decided on Lifelong Friends, an adoption organization based out of Lago Vista, Tx (a suburb of Austin). In their own words, they are "a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter dedicated to preventing animal suffering, rescuing and caring for stray and abandoned dogs and cats and finding homes for these animals, educating the publicabout responsible pet ownership, and encouraging pet owners to spay and neuter their animals." We just found out about them, but we already love them! We're very excited about the chance to contribute some toys to the cats & dogs at Lifelong Friends who are waiting on a forever home!

Email From Haiti Animal Organization

Our hearts are going out to those in Port-Au-Prince affected by the earthquake. Along with the rest of the world, we have been glued to CNN, watching Anderson Cooper (my fav!) report on the good, the bad, & the ugly as well as helping save the lives of Haiti's young (SWOON!). We also donated to the Red Cross, like many others. But in keeping with our organization, we wanted to do something to help our furry friends in Haiti, who have also had their lives drastically changed over the past week. So I did some research and found a reputable animal charity and emailed them to see what, if anything, I could do to help with their efforts. Below is the heartbreaking response I received from them [click on the image to make it larger]:

Our friends at River Dog Prints (memba them?) sent us some adorable custom stationary! They sent us two sets; one says "What gets your tail wagging?" and the other says "Every dog has his day... bring a ball that day, wouldya?" River Dog Prints creates custom stationary, photo cards, etc. They are also pet lovers and all-around awesome people. I highly reccomend checking them out for any custom paper good needs you might have! Thanks a million, Scout & Cyn, for the stationary- I can't wait to use it!!! XoXo!

Top 9 Charities on Twitter by Amazon CARES

Our friends at Amazon CARES have put together a list of the top 9 charities on Twitter and we are on it! Amazon Community Animal Rescue, Education and Safety (CARES) is an organization that is dedicated to the stray animals that roam the streets of Peru. Every life has value, and they work tirelessly to protect that life. Their services include two full-time vets on staff, a vet clinic, an absolutely 100% no-kill shelter, free mobile clinics, animal rescue, rehab, adoption, etc. You name it, they do it. It's a fantastic organization and they depend on donations to stay up and running- they are not government funded! So if you give to one animal related organization this year, donate to Amazon CARES. And if you give to two animal related organizations, donate to Amazon CARES and Teeny's Friends! ;)

Without further ado, here is the list of top 9 charities on Twitter, according to Amazon CARES.

@AAHAHelpingPets
American Animal Hospital Association Foundation
US and Canada (office in CO)
http://www.aahahelpingpets.org/
Bio We provide grants for emergency and non-elective veterinary care of pets in need. AAHA-accredited veterinary practices apply on behalf of their clients.
Why they're on the list: In these tough economic times I admire the American Animal Hospital Association Foundation for helping abandoned pets and pets with financially strapped owners to receive necesarry veterinary care. Their fund enables Veterinarians to be philanthropic, and helps needy families keep their pets. I especially love the stories of "Pets We've Helped" on their web site home page.
Sample Tweet: Approving a grant for Darius, an English Bulldog in WA who has an elongated palate. Poor puppy! Really hope this helps.

@AmazonCARES
Amazon Community Animal Rescue, Education & Safety
Peru and USA
http://www.amazoncares.org/
Bio Animal, Human health, safety in poorest areas of Peru´s Amazon. Since 2004. Doris Day Animal League Honoree, Brigitte Bardot Fnd. Grantee
Why I'm on this list: Well, it is my list, after all! We have changed cultural indifference in the small part of the world where we operate. We are 100% volunteer driven in the USA. We are involved with animal rescue, street animal birth control, humane education, wildlife conservation and assisted animal therapy projects. In addition to a modern clinic we operate a no-kill shelter. We focus on Twitter above other social media formats. We are a lot poorer than we look! LOL!
Sample Tweet: Volunteer in Peru! Love dogs? You don't have to be a vet to help out! http://bit.ly/NonVetVols

@APlacetoBark
Bernie Berlin
Sumner County, Tennessee
http://www.aplacetobark.blogspot.com/
Bio My name is Bernie Berlin Author of Artist Trading Card Workshop : I run a full time animal rescue, called A Place To Bark. Life is worth saving! Follow me:)
Why they're on the list: Since it's my list, I can be biased. I am a Tennessee native, and live in Nashville when not in the Amazon (jungle, not bookstore!). The South is the worst region of the USA to be an abandoned dog. Did you know many New England rescue organizations regularly work to save dogs from the South? Bernie Berlin (love her name) saves dogs from high-kill rate shelters. Her shelter is truly a no-kill shelter, like ours at Amazon CARES!
Sample Tweet: Planning to get started on finishing the shelter!!! 2 weeks & we start building, baby!!! WooHoo... YOWZA:)

@Big Cat Rescue
Big Cat Rescue
Tampa, FL 33625
http://www.bigcatrescue.org/
Bio Providing permanent home to 100+ lions, tigers & wild cats. Ending the breeding, trade, use and abuse w/ better laws at CatLaws.com
Why they're on my list: In the Amazon we see so many oncilla and jaguar babies taken in as pets and then abandoned when they grow larger. It is a terrible fate for many wildlife animals here. I can't ignore the work of this tremendous organization. Recently they have been more interactive with Amazon CARES on Twitter, and I appreciate their taking time to give us a shout out or a hello.
Sample Tweet: CatBlog 'Homesick' tiger to be kept under 24x7 surveillance: 'Homesick' tiger to be kept under 24x7 surveillance200... http://bit.ly/8F09zZ

@BlackDogRescue
Black Dog Rescue
North Ogden, Utah
http://www.blackdogrescueproject.com/
Bio Black Dog Rescue Project provides education to improve adoption rates for homeless black dogs. Spread the Word... Save a Life!
Why they're on the list: "Black Dog Syndrome is a very real phenomenon. Rescues and shelters around the country know that black dogs are the last to be adopted and among the first to be euthanized." from their website. I couldn't say it better.
Sample Tweet: Bambi - a tripod lab with a rough start finds her forever home in time for Christmas! http://bit.ly/8Nab5j

@DogsTrust
Dogs Trust
London
http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/
Bio Tweets by Dogs Trust digital team: Alex, Lo & manager Jacqui. Erm... woof? Bark! Whiiiine...No kill and 100% funded by donation, this UK based charity saved 16,000 dogs last year! They have various giving options to fit many budgets. All in all, a very professonal organization, and one of the few "big ones" that made this list.
Sample Tweet: *beaming* RT: @MrPCollins: Sponsored a @dogstrust dog for my girlfriend for Christmas. Perfect until we can adopt a real one!

@IMOM_org
United States
http://www.imom.org/
Bio IMOM.org (In Memory Of Magic): To better the lives of sick, injured, abused animals. To educate about proven health risks for unaltered animals.
Why they're on the list: Their name struck a chord, as my work is dedicated to the memory of Gretchen, my 14 ear old pet that passed away while I made the decision to live in Peru. They are 100% volunteer driven. That I can relate to as well!
Sample Tweet: Many people don't know that IMOM is a 100% volunteer-based organization. Fortunately, our family, spouses, & children love animals too. :)
Sample Tweet: IMOM pledged $400 to Daisy-Doo, a dog needing emergency back surgery today. http://j.mp/8daTaI

@RatboneRescues
Ratbone Rescues
Nationwide
http://www.ratbonerescues.com/
Bio Ratbone Rescues, a Rat Terrier Rescue founded in 1999, is a 501(c)(3) National Rescue organization dedicated to helping Rat Terriers in need.
Why they're on the list: It's hard to hghlight a breed rescue group, as all dog breeds of worthy of special attention. However, on Twitter, RatboneRescues really thrives, raising the profile of their charity while making new friends and supporting others. Their website sells great goodies. Despite running my own charity in need of funds, I couldn't help myself and purchased this great tee-shirt.

@TeenysFriends
Teeny's Friends
Austin, Tx
http://www.teenysfriends.blogspot.com/
Bio Teeny's Friends is an organization dedcated to providing toys for needy dogs
Why they're on the list: Teeny lives up to a much bigger name! How can one not adore and smile at his happy grin!? Providing toys to shelter dogs is a great idea to involve the community (through toy drives) and bring attention to rescue oranizations. Busy staff & volunteers don't have time to socialize with the shelter animals, and something as teeny as a toy can make a big difference in a dog's mental stimulation. This makes the dog more likely to be adopted! Additionally, Teeny is a friend to EVERYONE, with fun, interactive tweets. Teeny recently admitted a desire to join me in Peru for fun New Year's Eve celebrations!! LOL
Sample Tweet: We are trying to think of our New Year's resolutions and would love it if you would all share some of yours with us!
Sample Tweet: Teeny's Friends 1-fur-1 tug toy 4 sale on our blog! For each 1 bought, we donate 1 to needy dogs. Only $4.99!
